the nathan.works team
It’s all about people, and we have some good ones. Here are the brilliant minds behind our award-winning work.
Nathan Lee Johnson
Founder & Creative Director
Nathan Lee Johnson is the multidisciplinary creative engine of Nathan.works. With a journalist’s ear and a filmmaker’s eye, a designer’s precision and a writer’s poetry, Nathan leads the Nathan.works team as we make magic. Nathan speaks English, Spanish, and French.

Jay W. Austin
Project Manager • Concept Developer • Photographer
Jay helps to manage projects, conduct research, develop concepts, and take photos during production. You'll hear him saying, "What would it look like if...?" relentlessly throughout a project.
He focuses his creative energy towards social and environmental justice, and his unwavering commitment to non-extractive storytelling techniques makes the project hit differently.
Jay co-produced Digging In, a Nathan.works production slated for release in 2023, and he’s not picky about his coffee.
Esai Saenz
Cinematographer
Esai Saenz is a filmmaker and music producer who specializes in producing content about the issue most important to him: the environment, and the political action required to save it. He has created video-based campaigns against factory farm pollution in Oklahoma and deforestation in Honduras, always bringing his agile, decisive style. As a versatile creative with a can-do attitude, Esai is an essential part of the Nathan.works team.
Esai speaks English and Spanish, and only drinks black coffee during our exhausting international video production trips. Otherwise he’s a water guy (from a reusable bottle!)
