Nathan Lee Johnson.

Nathan Lee Johnson is an Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker, photographer, designer, and communications consultant for change. He is the founder of Nathan.works, an agency that moves people to action. 

Nathan’s expansive skillset underpins fundraising, awareness, and mobilization campaigns for organizations addressing the most important issues in our world today. 

As a filmmaker and video content creator, Nathan crafts visual stories for fundraising as well as broadcast. His diverse filmography includes human interest stories, first-person reporting, social issue documentaries for public television, and nonprofit communications content. He is the creator of Digging In, a documentary about American agriculture.

Beyond video, Nathan’s creative vision leads the Nathan.works team across the range of digital and print communications. Graphic designer, illustrator, writer, animator - these are just a few of Nathan’s roles for our clients.  

 
 

But more than anything, Nathan is a storyteller who sifts through complex and unwieldy messages to create stories that stir people to action. Time and time again, his successful campaigns have proven this skill.

 
 

Nathan is an experienced nonprofit leader. He served as the Vice President of Communications for Mavuno, an innovative social enterprise in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a founding team member of the organization, he played a pivotal role in shaping Mavuno’s brand and external voice. 

Nathan’s career has been marked by a global reach. He has traveled and worked in over 40 countries, with a special focus on Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. In the complex dynamics presented by international nonprofits, Nathan is known for thoughtful, humble collaboration. His inclusive dialogue with international teams is often the foundation of a successful Nathan.works project.
